Open Studios: Pavement Print Studio

Pavement Print Studio is a mobile screen printing facility built on a bicycle trailer, designed to take graphic design practice out of the studio and into public space. Operated by RMIT Associate Degree Graphic Design students, the studio creates conversations between designers and the public, education and practice, individual authorship and collective making.

Location: MPavilion, RMIT Brunswick Campus, 25 Dawson Street, Brunswick

What’s on: Open Edition is a week-long collaborative project across the Brunswick Design District. The mobile studio will move between multiple locations, hosting booked printing sessions where participants work alongside our design team to create screen printed artwork. Individual contributions are layered through overprinting, generating visual dialogue between participants and building unexpected combinations.

Everyone who participates becomes a named collaborator and co-author of the final work. The accumulated prints will then be installed at Balam Balam Place as a large-scale exhibition for the remainder of Melbourne Design Week .

An opening event brings all the collaborators back together to see how their individual contributions form something bigger.
